Introducing The Ever-Evolving Unstoppable Mutant, Kehrolyn Ross

Evolve your gameplan with Kehrolyn Ross, a powerful bruiser who dominates with artifacts.

Backstory

“I fear there may be no room for anything but monsters left in this world. It seems you’ve already decided where to draw the lines of civilization and humanity.”

Kehrolyn is an artificial lifeform, a homunculus, created by the brilliant but disgraced alchemist Aaron Ross. Hunted by Division 13, the black ops force of his own homeland, Aaron Ross fled into the wilderness to continue his research, which ultimately created Kehrolyn.

Capable of transmuting her body into any form and regenerating from almost any wound, Kehrolyn is a deadly force to be reckoned with. After her ‘father’ is killed and her home is ruined, she sets off on a quest to find her purpose in a world that fears and hunts her.

Pros

  • Can create nigh-unbetable attacks because of her ability.
  • Extremely powerful attacks that can win most combats.
  • A crazy powerful Normal that any team would want.

Cons

  • Awkward ranges that make her easy to evade.
  • Spends a lot of cards to enable her game plan.

Gameplay

Kehrolyn is always identified by her immense power, flexibility, and awkwardness. While she almost always has a tool to handle any given situation, gaining access to those tools often comes at a hefty cost. In Wardens, Kehrolyn can buff her attacks into the stratosphere thanks to her ability letting her use an extra artifact every strike. This effectively lets Kehrolyn play twice the number of added bonuses to her attack, giving her massive adaptability and unmatched power. So long as she’s willing to invest enough resources, Kehrolyn can win almost any given strike interaction if she wanted to.

However, doing so will often leave Kehrolyn’s team starved for cards as she effectively accelerates the rate at which her team loses cards. If used too recklessly, Kehrolyn’s ability could spell doom for the entire team as they run out of cards to defend themselves with. With correct planning, patience, and foresight, Kehrolyn can manage her resources to dominate combat wherever she goes, creating a lot of space for her team while threatening all who oppose her.

Team Role

Kehrolyn is listed as a Bruiser-class Warden and rightly so. Her powerful attacks and fearsome ability make winning any given combat against her almost impossible. This gives Kehrolyn a unique identity as a sort of tank-buster. With enough effort, Kehrolyn can out-damage even the game’s most powerful and self-sufficient tanks like Eligor and Percival.

If you need someone to duel 1v1 or to simply hold a point by themselves, Kehrolyn is just the homunculus for the job. She will, however, require tons of support to keep replenishing her resources while also covering her sub-par ranges. Support-class Wardens are her best friends as they provide her healing, card draw, and even defensive support when needed.

Alchemical Weapon

This attack is a microcosm of what Kehrolyn is all about. Alchemical Weapon is a simple attack, with stellar melee ranges, and unmatchable speed. Its only real weakness is its terrible printed power. Thankfully, that shouldn’t be a problem if Kehrolyn uses artifacts to augment her attacks. When buffed, Alchemical Weapon can easily hit for 5 or 7 damage and that’s not even accounting for the buffs the artifacts themselves actually provide. If you want it to, this WILL win combat.

Invisibility Cloak provides Kehrolyn’s team with some utility by turning opposing Assist effects off. It is best used when a Warden is at a numbers disadvantage to even out the field and catch your opponents off-guard.

Exoskeletal Shell

Most attacks that heal a Warden often have two major weaknesses: they’re slow and fragile (which means that the attack won’t go off if the Warden gets hit). Uniquely, Exoskeletal Shell is a bit faster than that. This added speed means that Kehrolyn can actually use this attack defensively to save herself from dying or to even extend her leads by wounding the opposing Warden while also healing herself up to full. While its range and power are mediocre, Kehrolyn can easily shore those up with the use of artifacts. One useful tip for all fragile attacks is that fragile only matters if the target is hit. If you use Kehrolyn as the Defender when she’s not being attacked, she can effectively guarantee the heal from Exoskeletal Shell at no risk!

Deathscythe is simple and effective. If you need extra power with no strings attached, you’ve got it. While the power it gives is surely less than comparable artifacts, its complete lack of restrictions and requirements means that literally any Warden can pump their power in any situation.

Hydra Fork

Kehrolyn’s play style requires her to spend a lot of cards to be effective. Hydra Fork is both a payout and supporting piece to that game plan. Once her team’s hand is empty, Hydra Fork is at its maximum power, hitting for 7 power from pretty far away. Not only that, but it also refills her team’s hand afterwards. Hydra Fork, in a word, solves most of Kehrolyn’s issues with card draw and range. However, it’s her ONLY solution to both of those things, making Hydra Fork absolutely devastating to hit but also absolutely tragic to miss.

Spellbreaker provides Kehrolyn’s team with even more artifact dominance by giving her team the ability to simply discard opponent artifacts. Sometimes the mere existence of this tool will cause opponents to hold their artifacts back, letting Kehrolyn’s team play more conservatively in return. Just remember that this artifact only works if Kehrolyn’s team initiated the strike as you can only discard an artifact that has already been played (and the attacker plays their artifacts second).

Whip (Normal)

Don’t let its low power stat fool you. Whip is probably one of the best Normals in the game. It has decent speed, good range, and an amazing hit effect that lets you reposition your target while also gaining the next turn. This combination of stats and effects lets any team with Whip dictate the flow of combat by displacing opponents without giving them the time to get back into the correct position. Use it to drag squishies into your team then eliminate them, or even get someone off a Control Point to combo into a mortar. The possibilities are endless!

Portal Scroll gives Kehrolyn’s team great repositioning capabilities by letting them reposition for an attack so long as they’re not a target. This makes Portal Scroll much more effective when used by an allied Warden to defend for another team member who is being attacked.

Conclusion

Kehrolyn is a powerful Warden who can win combats for her team thanks to her powerful artifact dominance, strong attacks, and insane tempo thanks to Whip. When supported by the right team, Kehrolyn can turn into a one-woman win condition for any team composition.
